About Us

The Black Horse is a Grade II listed building which dates back to the 14th Century. Our fully stocked bar offers a good selection of real ales, lagers, ciders, spirits and fine wines. Enjoy real ales from Bathams, Hobsons and Holdens or sample the guest ales. Recent guest ales include Enville Beer, Moreland Old Speckled Hen, Cottage Brewery, Green King Brewery and Three Tuns Brewery. Bed and Breakfast is available at competitive rates.

History abounds in Bridgnorth which was once one of the busiest shipping ports in Europe. Many taverns opened and closed along the ancient road leading to Low Town and the one that survived was The Black Horse.

The first recorded landlord was a Thomas Maun in 1796. The local drink was mild heavy dark and strong. The average gravity was 1006, the second highest in England.

As an inn The Black Horse was permitted to remain open as long as there was a bed empty and stabling to the lawful traveller. The Black Horse Hotel is a free house and has seen many changes over the past 196+ years but remains as originally intended a social and convivial centre of the community.

We offer live entertainment bands and artists every Saturday evening. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the pub and English Chinese and Indian Restaurant / Takeaways are only 2 minutes walk from the pub.

We offer bed and breakfast in our eleven tastefully decorated modern rooms and we are ideally based for visits to all local attractions in and around Bridgnorth.

In addition we can offer catering for Christenings, Birthday Parties and Funerals. We have a selection of palate pleasing buffet menus to choose from. For more information on buffet catering or the selection of menus we offer, please email us.

Our location on the banks of the River Severn is excellent for fishing of Barbel, Chub, Trout and Salmon or if you prefer near by are Hurst Lakes, Boldings Pool and Shatterford Lakes for Coarse & Fly Fishing.

For the golf enthusiast Bridgnorth Golf Club offers an 18 hole predominantly parkland golf course which has recently been completely re-laid to USGA specifications and Worfield Golf club boasts a championship length 18 hole golf course. Both Golf Clubs are within easy reach.
